Definition of Halal

Halal means permissible or lawful in Islam.

The term Halal is not just limited to food and drink products but it is a way of life for Muslims around the world.

Halal in reference to food and drink is the Islamic dietary standard as prescribed in the Islamic Law (Shri’ah) and as mentioned in the Muslim holy book The Glorious Quran.

Halal Slaughtering Process

The Islamic form of slaughtering animals or poultry, consists of using a well-sharpened knife to make a swift, deep incision that cuts the front of the throat, the carotid artery, windpipe, and jugular veins. The head of an animal that is slaughtered using halal methods is aligned with the Qiblah (the direction that should be faced when a Muslim prays). In addition to the direction, permitted animals should be slaughtered upon utterance of the Islamic prayers tasmiyah or shahada. Animals must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass.
